Wedding Dress Shopping in Chicago – A Day to Remember
The best dress shopping days in Chicago are intimate and thoughtful. Every appointment, every choice, and every little toast helps the bride feel celebrated.
There’s something inherently joyful about surprises — especially the kind that brings tears of happiness. When my sister got engaged in Chicago, we planned a little surprise of our own. Since I was living abroad, had flown out for the engagement, and wouldn’t be back for a while, I orchestrated a wedding dress shopping day just for her. We kept the party small, with our mom, the groom’s mom, and me so it would feel intimate and full of choice — not overwhelming.
What followed was one of the sweetest, most memorable days together. We kept it simple with just two boutiques, each offering a very different vibe, and wrapped it with a celebratory lunch overlooking the city.
First Stop: Grace Loves Lace
Our first dress appointment was at Grace Loves Lace Bridal Boutique, known for its romantic, bohemian designs straight from their Australian brand. They focus exclusively on their own gowns, which range from soft, flowing silhouettes to delicate lace details and effortless elegance. It was nice because, while there were plenty of styles to explore, we never felt overwhelmed by choice.
The space felt warm and welcoming, and they greeted us with champagne — an instant confidence booster. The stylist was patient and encouraging, and my sister seemed completely at ease trying on dresses that felt romantic and feminine. These weren’t show-stopping, dramatic gowns; they were about feeling beautiful and true to herself, which was perfect since she hadn’t yet imagined the kind of wedding she wanted.
She looked gorgeous in every single gown, and it was so heartwarming to see her bond with the stylist. This stop was ideal for brides leaning toward a softer, boho vibe, and it gave her a chance to explore her options without any pressure.

Second Stop: Dimitras Bridal
From there, we took an Uber to Dimitras Bridal, a high-end bridal boutique known for designer gowns and full-service appointments. This stop had all the energy of a classic Say Yes to the Dress moment — bustling, glamorous, and a little chaotic in the perfect way.
The dresses were stunning — luxe fabrics, dramatic silhouettes, and recognizable designer names. My sister tried on styles that were more formal and fashion-forward than what she’d seen at Grace Loves Lace. Watching her light up, giggle, and try on gowns she wouldn’t normally pick was such a joy.
By the end of this appointment, she hadn’t said yes yet, but she had clear favorites and left genuinely excited to keep exploring. We’d achieved exactly what we hoped for: a day that helped her start defining her style without feeling rushed or pressured

Wrap-Up Lunch at Nomi
To cap off the day, we headed to Nomi, a beautiful restaurant with sweeping views of the Chicago skyline. The food was incredible, the drinks flowed, and the atmosphere felt celebratory without being stuffy.
We sipped, laughed, and reflected on all the dresses she’d tried on — from delicate lace to dramatic designers — and her excitement was contagious. It was the perfect moment to pause, enjoy the city view, and soak in the memories we had just made together.

A Few Takeaways for Your Own Day
If you’re planning a small, intimate wedding dress shopping day, here’s what worked for us:
1. Keep your group small. Many Chicago boutiques limit group sizes, and intimate settings feel more relaxed.
2. Mix boutique vibes. Combining a soft, romantic stop with a high-end, designer-focused one helps clarify what the bride truly loves.
3. Limit to two stops. You’ll get variety without fatigue.
4. Celebrate afterward. Ending with a great meal and view lets everyone reflect and enjoy the moment.
5. This day wasn’t just about dresses — it was about connection, surprises, and celebrating the beginning of something big. And honestly? I wouldn’t change a thing.
